Chicks at three weeks

Crispy says hi! :) the chicks are about three weeks old now we think. We've had them for almost two weeks now, and I'll say it again, chickens grow FAST!  They are now able to fly and roost on top of their brood box. If you ask me, they are in the goofy looking stage, lol. no longer cute fluffy newborns, and not yet fully feathered.

We are handling them as much as possible so they will be used to us. Sometimes I just have to ask them, why are ya'll such chickens? lol , it makes me laugh every time as soon as I realize what I've said.  Here you can see their pretty feathers and how much they've grown!

Crispy showin off her back feathers. We need to get the coop done and SOON!

Dewey gets very upset when we go see the chickens. He just doesn't understand why he can come in! He throws a fit every time. lol.

Here a chick there a chick

Happy Valentines day to me! (and my daughter) On Feb. 15th we brought home six new baby chicks! Meet Nugget, Crispy, Omelet, Sheldon, Leonard, and Penny! We went out wanting to get two or three, but much to my husbands dismay, there was a six chick minimum, and so here we are! There are five mixed pullets, (two white and three red) and one road island red (gender unknown). I grew up with road island reds, even though we lived in town, we had a huge yard. They probably weren't very legal, and they were the bane of our next door neighbors existence but they sure were fun! :) So I blame my parents for my love of farm animals. ;)  They are really growing fast! they have a bunch of feathers and are already starting to fly. I need to post a new pic of all their new feathers. They are in kind of an ugly stage right now with only half their feathers, but I know they will look better soon, as they are growing so fast you can practically see it right before your eyes!
